I volunteered for the Incognito exhibition. I was late to the call so I had three days to make three artworks. Fun!
For this show, artists donate artworks to be sold, with the proceeds funding programs that support artists working with disabilities. Every work is A5 in size, every work is sold for $100 dollars
“The identity of an artwork’s artist will remain anonymous at all times. Only once an artwork is bought, will the artist’s name be revealed to the buyer on the back of the artwork”
It kicked off well, finding a giclee print on canvas from a long time ago to be the base of an idea I had around using jewellery chains
I had been playing around with layers of drawings of scraps of lace flowers. I cut this section from an A3 sized print and adhered it to one of the three A5 cards supplied
This idea came from the one below
This was a really good idea
This idea still not quite finale
I had bought this fine 1mm snake chain for the artwork above, but it turned out to be the wrong scale, too fine. So I had it to hand.
I had resin domes to hand as well
I though it was finished so I took some photos, then when I placed it down on the table, I accidentally I bumped it, and it did the whooshy thing with the chains as you can see below, and they looked windswept. BAM. Suddenly the vision is realised!
‘Raining’
Working
I make molds and I cast resin
endlessly
so theres a stash
This second piece, chunky glitter card and resin castings, super fun raiding that stash and slapping it down
Subcontinental Disco
And the last piece, Red Mona Lisa
Utilising ex-material from a commission and a random Mona Lisa cameo. I still have all these squares of heavy rag paper with texture & leaf & red paint. I made so many but the pile is slowly dwindling as I repurpose it. Happy with this cute little piece, “Red Mona Lisa”
Well that was fun. I am emboldened to make some more pieces along these lines for the Hunters Hill Fair
As well as my usual finery. You can count on me in this regard.
I also made this & I dont want to say too much about it
More preparedness for the fair. Putting a hard resin topcoat on everything, super glossy & glammy
Started a new thing but so far its pretty dumb
Today, my beautiful work, Topography, was not selected in an art prize which I have somehow deemed to be ‘the best’. Rejection hurts every time, there doesn’t seem to be a way around that.
But.
I will say this:
My talent and the originality of my work is genuine, but not fashionable, and difficult to photograph, which is of supreme importance to these online submissions, and there doesn’t seem to be a way around that.
My work is great.
the work
continues
