Winter's Night a Traveler

Artworking: July 2019

Rosie, artworker July 20, 2019

Cold wet night on the North Shore. July 4th 2019 8:12pm

Rosie.Perl.Discard-me-not.FromTheBodyMaskSeries2016.4.JPG

Ive been thinking about theatricality in my work. I like creating very small (because it’d cost too much for big) installations, set designs, mise en scene, displays, drama, you know

I went crazy for making & photographing diorama in 2013, but felt frustrated at the finite quality of them and took hundreds of photos as if I suspected they’d transmogrify into something more meaningful & I only had to catch them at it

So I flicked through some image files finding some cool old stuff such as these. I liked doing the tricks, where little sculptures looked bigger when contrasted with background/foreground in a different scale

It feels so clever when you’re setting it up, like you’re hoodwinking everyone but at the same time knowing everyone knows the trick already. Clean fun. So I did a lot of it. Really, I had to externalise my hard drive for all this sht

I love these two images. My Crocodile masks

RosiePerl_16.JPG

Cant believe how over processed my old images are

I love this & I could watch it all day, it tickled me true when it came about, just sitting at the workbench playing with stuff. There are some equally odd clips on my youtube channel if you want to waste even more time

Getting the monthly update back on track

New sewing pattern time!

Excited to make this one, I have a blue/rust check poly exactly right for it

RosiePerl_july19_13.jpg

My darling Flying Lotus’. Buy one hey?

RosiePerl_july19_4.jpg

Then it was time for late night gambling. Unicum. Comes out of the cupboard when you’ve already had too much to drink, which happens a lot with Hungarians. The following images describe the rest of the evening

RosiePerl_july19_7.jpg

hey!

RosiePerl_july19_9.jpg

ho!

RosiePerl_july19_8.jpg

Aaah good times!

RosiePerl_july19_5.jpg

Theres always, like, some random sober guy

RosiePerl_july19_11.jpg

Yeah! Still going with the good times!

And so on until we couldn’t do it any more/ran out of Unicum

July, hey!

I respectfully acknowledge the Guringay people, the traditional custodians of the land that is now called Ku-ring-gai, and pay my respects to elders past, present, and those to come. I extend my respect to elders and members of the Darug nation, and to all Indigenous people who may be reading these words

Fellow travellers, thank you for visiting
