The fruits of “Sunt Lacrimae Rerum”, an artwork you’ve never seen because its not finished yet and my word is it taking a long time to finish.
The Heartsease ornament can be seen here and here, as I was making them & indeed, they’re now upgraded to greeting cards
The alphabet letters are from an element within that piece that I’m still trying to decide on & these have been made for look-sees. Cut from some of the tiles I created for 2016’s major commission by Star Casino, the gilded textured painted gilded painted gilded tiles of heavyweight cotton rag paper. They’re gorgeous.
‘Fresco’ is used loosely to describe the feel of the thing and its manner of execution, setting the characters & ornaments into a base of modified plaster which is then patinated with various waxes & pigments. (‘Patina’ is treating a surface to look as if it’s old, has some history and a story to it. Its a finely judged thing between beautifully storied and dirty old so you have to take care.)
This piece is a premium quality, deep profile (38mm) 8X10” board with the edges gilded in Dutch gold leaf. The face is a beautiful buffed wax surface. This is a beautiful thing.
