I have not been well
It is taking longer to recover from surgery than I had allowed and I’m tired from the ongoing collateral. Some days I feel almost normal then the next few I spend on the couch. A bit depressing. Some days I feel real low
In work I’m doing this thing with fragments. Fragments of memory & time, bits of me shearing off, all the inside unknowns, years tearing away, mind floating. Drifting. I feel like I’m drifting, lacking purchase on the days. Then I’m trying to pin it down, this time right now, to get a grip on the present & make it count
Gold plated chain on canvas.
After the Rain. Detail 2024-5
I’ve built up some nice time on this surface, nearly a year since I started it. We all know there's more to come, something that will take A LOT OF TIME to do. I wish I could make simple things that happen quickly.
I’m feeling there’s something more to do with chains. Links. And arcs of time. The sweep of draped metal. Lyrical but hard.
After the Rain involved several meters of draped gold & silver plated chain and I loved it. There’s a lot of surface area on every chain link and altogether it really glitters irl, but doesn’t really capture via photo or in video although I’ve tried. Don’t know how that works but irritating
I do a lot of drawing onto photos. Trying to find where the arcs go, scribbles are feeling distressed. I keep thinking of the title of some tv show from whenever it was on: nip/tuck. I am most definitely scarred, which I oddly hadn’t given real thought to before it happened. Strangely I hadn't thought about it being permanent.
Stitching, needle, thread, growths, fecund tendrils, dark veins and tributaries.
Sometimes drawing on photos really degrades the image quality
I remember how the gibbons in the zoo in Hong Kong drew such graceful arcs. Swinging across the cage.
All of which to say: I need more beads.
