Sculpture: Venus of Willendorf necklace #101
Sculpture: Venus of Willendorf necklace #101
Artwork. Featuring the Venus of Willendorf sculpture in gilded cast resin, along with my Quatrefoil ornaments at differing scales with gold leaf & freshwater pearls.
This had to include a Mona Lisa cameo but this one is groovy and transparent, there’s also a gilded vintage button, a gilded & oil glazed scarab, double sided stars with embedded freshwater pearls and a hard-to-find Japanese cotton pearl in pale pale pistachio. Except for the pearls, I made every piece you see, all hung on a classic heavy gold plated belcher chain. Total length of the chain is 80cm & the lobster clasp will clip onto any link, wear it las a long pendant or closer, for a collar or bib style necklace. I refer you to Schiaparelli for guidance
The charms hold meaning & associations for me. They’re not heavy, just objects that speak to me & contrive a story when they come together
Heartsease and quatrefoils are like bottled Nirvana; I want the thing that means my heartsore will be eased, my karma played out, and all is settled and one. Heartsease is as it sounds. Rest and look to your heart, perhaps think of me as I think of you. Or, in the case of lovers, upon your beloved.
Scarab: from a place I thought might actually be mythical: Cairo. I could hardly believe I was actually there, when I was, and for the gift of a scarab ring, inscribed on the back "beautiful beautiful love me forever". I want that sentiment to last forever. This piece is cast from my scarab from antiquity
Mona Lisa. Its so loaded with an unfathomable number of pop-cultural meanings that it may as well be mythical. It stands 'for art' and the mysterious inscrutability of it and because it's funny
Stars, I think, have a sort of martial and hippy vibe at the same time, either communist exoticism or astrological phooey and I like the shape of them in five pointed 3D. Stars are things everyone likes. They’re starry.
There could be a thread running all these, a time/travel/mystical/archetypal play, to which I add gold and pearls. It could be like misty Avalon stuff, the Isle of utopian paradise that all of us yearn for but in the cold light of day probably couldn’t bear; its too much, too much but a wondrous place to visit. Which makes these pieces a souvenir! Told you.
The Venus figurine on this necklace is 40mm head to tippie toe. Read more about the Venus of Willendorf here. Putting her next to the CC pendant is something to think about. Everything means something.
Venus is cast from a 3D file (a true scan of the original ancient sculpture) by Constantine Os, and which I have permission to reproduce. All chains and findings are of the highest quality with a heavy gold plate and anti-tarnish coating. Everything is handmade, please be aware or the somewhat delicate nature of gold leaf, even when topcoated. Having said that, they are patinated so they are ‘antiqued’ already, in keeping with my general aesthetic. Nothing looks brand new, even if I made it this morning. If you are unhappy with them in any way, please send them back to me for repair foc
