Artworking; November 2022. Markets!

Its happening again, Christmas, except this one is freaky because I now have a viable business and I’m gonna hammer it through to the 25th December. Work to do!

The brooch above is marvellous, but I dont have a shot of it worn yet sorry. Its about 35mm square. It is a drawer pull escutcheon! From a Singer sewing machine cabinet! I took a silicone mold from the piece my husband found attached to a thing & cast them in resin, then gild & ornament and whee we go. (Husband restores & peddles vintage sewing machines which is another story)

It has a button back on the reverse, for my master plan. I bought a black blazer (I have a Heather Blazer cut out & ready to sew, which I was making expressly for this purpose but dude, I have not the time to complete it so I bought one because my vision had nonetheless needed immediate realisation) and sewed them over the top of the existing, functional button in a Schiaparelli homage and it is the BOMB. Just no pics yet :(

Ive tried a few brooch pins and unfortunatly, this is the best; there are a few better looking ones but I found they weren’t very secure long term. But I do not give up and forever more shall be alive to better looking brooch pins.

The following is a bunch of studio records pics; I don’t list much stuff in my shop here because then I’d have to photograph it & the level of finish I demand means that’s a big, long time job. These are just documentation snaps. Rough, recorded for my reference.

Someone bought my Mona Lisa necklace! NO! Its still weird how people come up and touch my stuff then walk away with it, having given me some money. The mystery of commerce…

I have been doing some markets! Scare! A few local ones, in the run-up to Christmas. Thus my market research is accurate: my stuff is good and people will pay money for it. Financial validation is most vital. It means the dream is true. Only I’ve been working so hard keeping up stock! Back to the studio after dinner and a full day, until late late. I will see this dream through.

A market is a shop when I want to have a shop, on my own terms, selling whatever I want to make. A part time business where I work all the time and the working part is all I’ve ever wanted to do, to make my work

I have worked hard on my Shelfings and I will post the design development process separately, but these are a job for next year. My market table is only so big…so I am thinking of a second table.

Gordon, the gritty grey carpark reality. In my mind its so VAST, then I get there and every time so far, in the first half hour, I want to cry & go home, or go home and cry. So emotion

Two more markets till Christmas. And I am tired, they are gruelling. I set up the table in the studio beforehand & landscape the display, photograph it, wrap everything up carefully in piece by piece with a note as to its position, working from right to left along the table (so I unpack to set up left to right) & load into boxes. A crucial process because it still takes me an hour or so to set it all up at the actual market. I am exacting. The markets are open from 8am so I’m there at 6.30am to have it all done. Market closes at 2pm, its a bloody long day. But I will do it well, and it is good! And I’m extremely grateful for my beautiful family for supporting me! (In case they’re reading) ;)
